Glasgow’s first ‘safe’ drug consumption room was meant to reduce drug-related harm and keep public spaces safer. Yet just weeks after its opening, the reality on the ground tells a very different story.
Reform UK Councillor Thomas Kerr has called out SNP Health Secretary Neil Gray after discovering discarded needles, spoons, and drug paraphernalia near Morrisons in Calton — just a stone’s throw away from the controversial £2.3 million ‘fix room’.

A ‘Safe’ Consumption Room? The Reality on the Streets
The SNP and their Health Secretary dismissed concerns about discarded drug debris, branding them “false” and “disinformation.” However, the evidence is now piling up—literally.
- Piles of used syringes and drug-related litter have been found near the supermarket.
- Families shopping at Morrisons are now exposed to dangerous paraphernalia.
- Children are at risk—a horrifying thought that Kerr summed up bluntly:
“If a child picks up one of these needles, then god help us.”

Despite SNP ministers dismissing safety concerns, local residents are witnessing the consequences firsthand. One Glaswegian was clear in his anger:
“I have seen the drugs myself. It’s a total disgrace. Neil Gray is an idiot and a liar.”
Reform UK Demands Accountability
Thomas Kerr has challenged Neil Gray to lead a clean-up operation immediately and face the reality of the crisis. Instead of admitting failure, the SNP continues to insist that their approach is working—even as evidence of public injecting is right outside their flagship facility.
This is yet another example of why Scotland needs real opposition. Reform UK is standing up for the people failed by SNP mismanagement.
It’s time to put common sense back into policy.
