John Coupland

Reform UK candidate for Orkney Islands

“A vote for Reform is a vote for change to restore common sense and put Orkney’s needs first.”

About John

I am married to a Highland lass from Easter Ross; we have two grown-up sons and two young grandsons. In 1988 we moved to the Highlands and built a house in the Dingwall area where we still live. I have worked in the construction sector for most of my career, travelling extensively. My oldest son was born in Hong Kong, and my youngest completed the final three years of his schooling in New York.

For the past twenty years, I have been a self-employed consultant providing constructability and budgetary advice, estimating, and planning for underground structures and deep foundations. I have been involved in major projects including Thames Tideway, Crossrail, HS2, Sizewell C, and the Lower Thames Crossing in the UK, as well as the World Trade Center, Fulton Street Transit Centre, and California High Speed Rail in the USA.

Although previously not active in politics, recent political developments motivated me to act. I joined Reform UK in October 2024, became interim Chair of the Highlands and Islands Branch in May 2025, and am now standing for the Orkney Islands constituency, where I have longstanding personal ties.
